Midjourney
Midjourney is an independent research lab that’s gotten pretty popular for its text-to-image AI tool, also called Midjourney. It’s kind of like DALL-E or Stable Diffusion—basically, you type in a word or phrase, and in a minute, it creates a stunning image based on what you wrote.
The whole idea came from David Holz, the guy who also co-founded Leap Motion. In 2020, Holz and his team started playing around with the idea of using AI to generate images after he saw the potential in OpenAI’s CLIP technology. They launched Midjourney in March 2022, and since then, they’ve been constantly improving it, releasing new versions every few months.
So, Midjourney uses this Machine Learning algorithm to figure out what you’re describing. We don’t know all the details, but it’s likely using something called a latent diffusion model. Basically, after it processes what you type, it creates an image that matches your description, then layers in the art style you want. It’s pretty slick how it merges everything together to give you a finished piece.
